Aim Trials, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, is one of the few clinical research sites in the country that is conducting psychedelic research studies. This article summarizes what those studies are, their study goals, what is required of a clinic to conduct such a study, how Aim Trials is qualified to conduct these studies, and how they are accomplishing the goals for psychedelic research.
What Is a Psychedelic Treatment?
Psychedelic therapy, which uses psychedelic drugs like psilocybin, MDMA, and LSD, is gaining attention in the United States as a potential treatment for mental health issues. The therapeutic use of these substances is an increasingly discussed topic as researchers explore their efficacy and safety. People with conditions such as PTSD, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse disorders, and end-of-life challenges may benefit from these treatments. Research on the potential benefits and risks of these therapies is ongoing, and most are still in their early stages, but many patients are seeing results. As of this writing, the only way to legally utilize psychedelic therapy in most countries using psilocybin or MDMA is to enroll in a clinical trial.
The Goals and Purpose of Psychedelic Clinical Trials
The main goal of psychedelic research is to determine if these therapies can be used for healing, to develop viable therapies for mainstream use, and to gain a better scientific understanding of these drugs.
Requirements for Clinical Research Sites Conducting Psychedelic Studies
Not every clinical research site can be considered to conduct psychedelic research studies. There are requirements that must be met to perform such a study, including:
- Obtaining the necessary licenses, approvals, and registrations to conduct research using controlled substances
- Availability of the appropriate facilities and equipment
- Proper recruiting and training of researchers, therapists, nurses, and other staff
- Established emergency protocols
- Ability to reach out to the community and create awareness
- Availability of integrated mental health services to provide counseling, therapy, and other follow-up support for participants
Aim Trials: Now Conducting Psychedelic Research Trials
Aim Trials is proud to announce that we have started conducting psychedelic research studies at our clinical research site. We feel this research could bring profound benefits to those suffering from PTSD, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, and end-of-life depression and anxiety.
Aim Trials is highly qualified to conduct these studies for a variety of reasons:
- Aim Trials has obtained a DEA license to legally perform these studies.
- The investment has been made at Aim Trials in a dedicated treatment room in our facility, DEA-approved controlled substance storage, locks, and security cameras, as well as adding calming aesthetics and lighting to help participants in the studies. This is the appropriate type of facility and setting to conduct psychedelic research.
- The correct staff has been hired and trained at Aim Trials on the proper protocols essential to conducting this type of research. We have a certified psychotherapist and assistant therapist to manage these studies.
- Our facility has established medical emergency protocols and procedures to handle any adverse reactions.
- It is our goal at Aim Trials to educate the community and increase awareness of the potential benefits of psychedelic treatments, as well as remove the stigma from these treatments to build acceptance of the process. We have plans in place to recruit participants and make sure eligible participants understand the study, associated risks, and potential benefits.
- Aim Trials offers integrated mental health services to provide counseling, therapy, and follow-up help to participants. This is key to a long-term success as participants process their psychedelic experiences. We are integrated within a private practice focused on providing end-to-end mental health services to take care of participants after they complete our study. The combination of psychedelics and a mindful intervention strategy can be key to the successful use of psychedelics for mental health treatments. The mindfulness aspect is the state of awareness of what is happening after the psychedelic treatment, how the participant is affected, and how they can process the experience after the treatment for optimal results. Therefore, a fully integrated mental health service is of the utmost importance in determining true results of such a study.
